In 2012, Intrepid Philanthropy Foundation supplemented a PacTin grant award that enabled a group of teachers from Ponderosa Elementary school to learn Reading Workshop techniques from the experts at Columbia Teachers College. When they returned, they were able to implement changes in their classrooms and became leaders in their district, providing professional development for other teachers. This successful experience became the blueprint for the LIGHT Awards program.
