Alvarado Elementary, San Francisco:
The five-member special education team will attend the Special Education Institute at Teachers College. Most general education classroom teachers at their school are currently using the workshop model to teach reading and writing, and this team will learn how to adapt the model to meet the needs of special education students. After returning from the training, team members will continue to support each other and collaborate, working together to modify workshop classroom implementation for students with different types of disabilities. Both students and teachers will become included in the school’s movement toward the Workshop model, and the team will be even better equipped to advocate for their students.
