In August 2014, the Intrepid Philanthropy Foundation hosted its first annual Convening honoring the teacher teams that received LIGHT Awards in early 2014.   The meeting brought together an impressive group of eleven educators along with members of Intrepid Philanthropy’s board and its teacher advisory group.

During the convening, the teachers had opportunities to discuss their projects as well as to socialize and network.   Attendees also participated in professional development activities as a group.  Over Friday night dessert, everyone was treated to the inspiring perspective of Ellen Moir, Founder and President of the New Teacher Center.  Patricia Ryan Madson, a Stanford Emeritus professor and author of Improv Wisdom , led a lively morning session of Improv, playfully guiding the group towards being present, open-minded and creative.  She shared activities that could translate into a school setting.  Giselle Chow of The Grove Consultants International showed us how to use graphic recording and facilitation to document, organize and enliven group conversations and meetings.

Each summer, active participants in the LIGHT Awards program will be invited to a Convening like this one.  Maybe next year YOU’LL be one of them!
