Costaño Elementary School, East Palo Alto

The team of six teachers is using the LIGHT Awards grant to learn skills in collaboration and coaching.

Three team members attended Columbia University’s Coaching and Leadership Institute in January, 2014; the remaining team members attended Columbia Teachers College’s Advanced Reading Institute in June, 2014. The entire group also participated in an onsite two-day coaching seminar led by the New Teacher Center. During the 2014-15 school year, the team members are meeting regularly to develop a peer coaching model and corresponding handbook of best practices that can be extended to all staff at their school site.
