“¡Adelante Juntos!” Developing a Dual Immersion Model in a Blended Program

The team of six, including elementary and middle school teachers and reading intervention specialists, will spearhead the re-envisioning of their school’s K-8 Spanish/English dual immersion program. They aim to build capacity to close the achievement and experience gap of students, particularly long-term English Learners. Additionally, the team sees the need for a cohesive program across the grades that can be used to both train new teachers and allow parents to be partners in the model. The team’s professional development plan includes attendance at conferences through the National and California Associations of Bilingual Educators, visits with other exemplar schools to share practices, and the study of current theoretical texts. Lastly, the team will build out a series of education modules for current and new teachers, after-school staff, families, and community members.
