Sanchez Elementary School, San Francisco

The team of elementary school teachers will use inquiry to research, plan, teach, observe, and reflect on math lessons that they give in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade classrooms.

Teachers will design curricula through this process, with continuous analysis and discussion to improve practices and outcomes. The goal is for teachers to learn how the mathematics classroom in the primary grades can build students’ math skills through joy and curiosity around mathematics as a place for creativity, community and problem-solving. Ultimately, the team hopes to feel more confident in their math planning and lesson delivery, more comfortable encouraging their colleagues to visit their math classrooms, and to confidently utilize student assessment data to plan for universal design and differentiation for individuals and small groups.
