Roots International Academy, Oakland

Five middle school teachers endeavor to learn the skills for, gain exposure to, and create a sustainable culture for project-based learning at their school. In the first year of their inquiry, they will apply skills from the Buck Institute for Education to design engaging projects, shifting students from displaying knowledge to demonstrating knowledge. In year two, teachers will share their knowledge by leading a school-wide professional development. A contracted facilitator will keep accountability and guide team learning. The team aims to deepen student learning experiences to meet the needs of all students through interdisciplinary project-based learning.
