William C. Overfelt High School, San Jose

Five teachers representing a wide range of subject areas are teaming to create an intensive summer “AP Bootcamp” to help prepare their students for success in their Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

During the summer of 2014, the teachers attended offsite AP and pre-AP training institutes specific to their subject areas. During the 2014-15 school year, the cohorts collaborated to develop the plan for the Bootcamp, which was held during the summer of 2015.  Initially, the Bootcamp focused on helping students develop the reading and writing skills necessary to succeed in the Social Sciences and English AP courses. Over time, the team hopes to expand the effort to math, science and other disciplines.
