Lazear Charter Academy, Oakland

The team of four elementary school professionals identified the need to create and maintain an embedded ELD program that is woven throughout their curriculum in order to support their 52%-ELL student population. Through following the complete model of Be GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) training, attending the GLAD conference, and creating 3-4 differentiated classroom models, the team plans to implement a Balanced Literacy curriculum. After the two years, the teachers who participate in this training will become GLADiator Trainers who are certified to provide professional development, coaching, and ongoing training to current and new staff to ensure it is implemented school-wide.
